About Us

We are people you know - your friends, your coworkers, your neighbors.  We come when you call, no matter what the time, the weather.

The Zebulon Fire Department serves the City of Zebulon and the surrounding community in times of need.  As an all-volunteer department we are a vital, cost-effective service.  We respond to a wide variety of calls and, as necessary, work hand-in-hand with other fire/rescue departments as well as respective law enforcement and state agencies.

Personnel also take time to work in our community.  Last year we took part in fundraising activities and fire safety classes for students in our local schools.  This will continue and grow in the future.

Beginning in the 1990’s, a group effort was made to ensure that the Zebulon Fire Department could fully serve the community.  Everything was examined, from hose to trucks.  Our efforts were rewarded.  The City of Zebulon was inspected by the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO) in 1998 with the city receiving a rating of a six.  This not only lowered insurance rates.  It directly benefits the city, the department, and our personnel in issues ranging from grants to retirement.

We are very fortunate to have a good facility for our use.  In 1994 the city government moved from a very small facility on the Square to our present location.  We went from a small two-bay building with very limited storage to a space we were able to remodel to our specifications.

Our station now includes offices, storage rooms, a bathroom, a shower, a laundry area, bunk rooms, a kitchen, a multi-use/living area, and three apparatus bays.  With the amount of room we have we are able to share space with our county ambulance provider, Middle Georgia Ambulance.

A recent grant enabled us to add a system that vents the carbon monoxide exhaust from our vehicles, adding a level of safety for our personnel.  Further remodeling is currently underway to add a new roof, parking, bay space, and an additional bathroom/shower.

As for vehicles, we currently have a total of four apparatus and a command vehicle.  These carry all of our needed equipment as we respond to calls.

Until 1996 we relied on a 1968 American LaFrance pumper.  That year the Mayor and City Council made it possible to purchase a new Class A pumper built to our specifications by Emergency One of Ocala, Florida.

Rounding out our apparatus, we operate a brush/tanker truck in cooperation with the Georgia Forestry Commission.  We also have a Ford Crown Victoria used as a command vehicle.

Training sessions are held each month at our station.  Subject matter is varied to comply with state and federal regulations.  We also utilize outside training sites, such as the Georgia Fire Academy, as much as possible.
