Station Renovations Begin The Zebulon Fire Department's station is undergoing a four-month remodeling process. The work on the station began this week.
The renovations are part of a $1.3 million upgrade of Zebulon's city government complex. Funding for the project was divided between SPLOST, USDA, and the City of Zebulon.
A new roof was added to the complex earlier in the year, including the portion of the building occupied by the fire department. This was a needed improvement as the facility's existing roof was developing leaks.
Improvements made to the Zebulon Fire Department's portion of the building will include a new bay, expansion of two bays to double their size and to make them accessible from the front and rear, a bunk room, a bathroom, and office and storage space. The station will be converted to all electric utilities.
"We will almost double the amount of apparatus space we have right now," said Chief Dale Jackson. Adding that the department will have more room to offer for special events, such as the Boy Scouts of America Pinewood Derby.
